This past Saturday we had the pleasure of seeing our Issue 007 featured artist, Michael Nau perform in Brooklyn. Hearing him do ‘Love Survive,’ the a-side to the 7″ we released earlier in the year was a reminder of why we’ve kept this project alive and how lucky we are to get to work with incredible humans. We’re still reeling from the set, but these two gems have caught our attention wholeheartedly this week. Hearing a song you love for the first time will never get old.
Big Thief-Real Love
Touting a seal of approval from the likes of Sharon Van Etten, Brooklyn’s Big Thief are on a fast track to winning the hearts and ears of music aficionados who appreciate the power of a well-written folk song. Ahead of Masterpiece, their debut for Saddle-Creek, ‘Real Love’ is a sturdy, powerful number about ‘the struggle that is inherent in love.’ Backed by supremely talented musicians, Adrienne Lenker’s vocals are a force to be reckoned with. Big Thief, you have our attention. Masterpiece drops May 27th.
It’s no secret we’re suckers for some good ole’ psych/garage-rock over at Singles Club hq. Scully, the latest signees to Fire Talk Records won us over quick with their single ‘Wave.’ Albeit an overcrowded genre, Scully float to the top, showcasing their pop sensibilities with just the right amount of grit and eccentricity. 7″ out this summer via Fire Talk, cassette via Burger.
