As year-end content is still dribbling in, we’ve got our ears on what lies ahead this year. While Soundcloud still reigns supreme for keeping track of new singles in my humble opinion, here are two of our favorite finds this week. Hope you dig. Got something you think we should hear? Please get in touch: email@example.com https://soundcloud.com/firetalk/the-big-ship-the-boathouse-story-1 The Big Ship-The Boathouse Story Fire Talk Records are on a winning streak this year. Between upcoming releases from Murals, Baby Birds Don’t Drink Milk and recent favorites The Big Ship, all you psych-heads should keep a close eye on FT. Comprised of Hasau Mountain label-founder Doug Kaplan and Philadelphia’s Aeron Small, The Big Ship is a cross-state duo churning out some beautiful American drone/ambient sounds. ‘The Boathouse Story’ is a restorative finger-picked number that reminds me of hearing the meditative work of Six Organs Of Admittance for the first time. Searchlight Casting is out now. https://soundcloud.com/whitedenim/holda-you-im-psycho White Denim-Holda You (I’m Psycho) Lucky for us, we had Constant Bop, last year’s stunning record from White Denim frontman James Petralli to hold us over between proper WD lps. And while Petralli is no less impressive on his own, it’s tough to rival the raw power that his band affords him. On ‘Holda You (I’m Psycho), lead single from the forthcoming Stiff LP, the boys pick up right where they left off with 2013’s Corsicana Lemonade. They’re the Allman Brothers on speed. Fast, soulful and unbeliveably well-executed rock and roll. Doesn’t get any better. Stiff is released on 3/25 via Downtown Records. See this band live if it’s the last thing you do.
